Hotel Review: Istanbul Ataturk Airport TAV Airport Hotel Airside, Istanbul

As part of a recent trip from San Francisco to Nairobi via Istanbul on Turkish Airlines, I spent a couple hours of my stopover at the airside of the TAV Airport Hotel in Istanbul.

Located at the International Terminal of Ataturk International airport, TAV is a convenient hotel to rest for a couple hours or even the entire night after a long flight. I arrived at the airport at 4:30 pm following a 12h15 flight and the next flight was in 9 hours, so I decided to rest my head for a little while. TAV airport hotel offers a total of 128 luxurious rooms. 82 on the landside (meaning you have to go out of arrivals terminal and through immigration to access it) and 46 on the airside (can be accessed directly without having to go through immigration hence no need for visa). Thus, the airside offered me a quick 6 hours of rest as I waited for my departure to Nairobi.

I opted to stay for 6 hours at a cost of 135 euros.

The check-in process was smooth and receptionist friendly. The sound proof room was very spacious and comfortable, with one King size bed, large wardrobes, 2 bottles of complimentary mineral water, tea, and coffee.

The white linen and towels provided, as well as the entire room smelt fresh and good.

Another nice touch was the complimentary wifi in the rooms albeit not very fast.

How to get the TAV Airport Hotel Airside

Right after the security and immigration next to section H of international departures, proceed on while following the signs. The hotel is adjacent the CIP lounge at the very end of the hallway past one of the duty free shops.

The Verdict

Overall, I had a great 6 hour experience at the hotel, but there were two caveats:

  1. 135 euros for a 3 to 6 hour stay is kinda on the higher side.
  2. The bath tub is raised pretty high. Its very easy to miss a step if you unconsciously step out of the thinking its the height of your average bath tub. The height can also cause challenges for elderly people as well as those with some kind of physical disability.
